Contracted to a full time job

Contract jobs are not uncommon today. And chances are, many fresh
graduates will be hired on contract for their first job.
How do you turn a contract job into a permanent position, or
what can you get out of it that will increase your employability later?
The answer lies in how vital a part you end up playing in the business.
Find out if there are permanent openings in your current company
because not all positions are openly advertised, In fact, most companies are
now into talent management programmes: Internal hiring is the first option.
So, update your HR department about any new acquired qualifications, and
the experience you are accumulating in the present contract job.
Read your employment contract, What are your goals and dreams that
can come true from turning the current contract position into a permanent
placement?
A lack of desire, fear of failure and rejection, or self-limiting beliefs
are some reasons which could be holding you back from moving towards
your goal. Put aside self-doubt and say to yourself: “Today is the day I start
making more of my life!”
Then, confidently approach your supervisor with an idea or plan that
could have a big impact in your section or company. Ask yourself, “Has
someone already done it?”
If so, do not reinvent the wheel, Find out exactly what has been done
and turn the original strategy to your advantage — that is, use it to help you
succeed in your tasks in half the time and half the frustration,

Learning experience
Enjoy your job from the start and learn from it. Keep on learning new
things and update yourself on the soft skills needed for your future job.
On-the-job lessons can be invaluable as not all companies will offer you
structured training programmes.
Face the fact that contract jobs are here to stay. Yes, you may not have
the job security nor feel entirely part of the organisation. Even if you cannot
convert a temporary placement to a permanent one, chalk up the experience
to a plus for your resume.

Overall, here are steps that will help you assume higher responsibility, no
matter what job you take up.
-+ Gather experience — Learn everything possible from everyone. Experience
cannot be over-stäféd for moving up the career ladder.
-ø Gather a dossier — Always have a quick-and-ready file of documents which
show success in past endeavors. This includes your curriculum vitae,
portfolios, certificates and reports of the projects you have handled. When
the opportunity presents itself, all you have to do is whip out the necessary
files.
-, Sell yourself — Whether in an interview or in a work discussion with
higher-ups, discuss the benefits that you can bring to the table. If
possible, refer to specifics. For example, saying that you can bring about a
quantity of sales increase or a percentage of cost reduction can help you
move up the career ladder.
